The
mechanical strength of industrial catalysts and adsorbents is of
outstanding importance for their manufacturing and packaging, as well as
during loading and operation in the reactors. Two different mechanical
characteristics are measured to determine this mechanical strength : the
crush resistance and the attrition / abrasion resistance.
BAT- fluidized Bed Attrition Tester (ASTM D-5757-95)
Vinci-Technologies offers a specific equipment to determine the attrition of powdered catalysts in fluidized bed, particularly suitable for FCC catalysts (fresh or steamed) and the like (size range 10 to 180 microns).
The proposed equipment complies with the ASTM D5757-95 method covering the determination of the relative attrition characteristics of powdered catalysts by means of air jet attrition. It is applicable to spherically or irregularly shaped particles (size range between 10 and 180 microns).
This attrition is obtained by subjecting a sample to fluidisation with humid air jets. The percentage of fines (particles less than 20 µm) after a 5 hours test is the Air Jet Attrition (AJI). This apparatus has the following advantages:
-
Strictly compliant with the new ASTM method.
-
Suitable for FCC catalysts (fresh or steamed) and the like.
-
Specific fines collector.
-
Specific assembling and dismantling devices in view of easy access to fines and residue.
