Description
The GEOSCAN is the field version of Vinci’s long-established Rock-Eval instrument, designed for on-site geochemical analysis of rock cuttings directly at drilling locations. This upgraded version determines key hydrocarbon and kerogen parameters—such as S1, S2, Tpeak, and Tmax—through high-temperature pyrolysis. Using subsequent oxidation combined with our advanced CO and CO₂ infrared analyzers, TOC is also measured by default. Analytical cycles can be configured with either a single heating rate or multiple heating ramps, ranging from 80°C (or ambient temperature +20°C) up to 850°C (typically from 80°C or 300°C to 650°C for standard pyrolysis).
This innovative setup features two ovens and an automatic sampler, all housed within a robust, vibration-resistant casing designed to protect the instrument from damage during transportation. The configuration includes:
* Primary (main) pyrolysis oven–FID assembly: Equipped with a CO–CO₂ analyzer on the splitter line, it enables rapid TOC measurement at high temperature under air. Oven #1 includes a fully automatic sampler, allowing for effortless and unattended operation.
* Secondary (backup) pyrolysis oven–FID assembly: Operates fully independently and simultaneously with the main oven, offering the same analytical capabilities for S1, S2, Tmax, and TOC. Oven #2 is manually operated (without an automatic sampler).
All data are automatically processed using our dedicated geochemistry software, GEOWORKS.
